Thursday June 02, 2016 – Days after news broke that Amber Heard and Johnny Depp were getting divorced, fans of both actors were shocked when Heard was granted a restraining order against Depp after accusing him of domestic violence. And now, nearly a week after reports of Heard’s claims were released, text messages allegedly from Heard about Depp have surfaced.
While Depp has not yet spoken out on Heard’s claims, his rep released a statement to The Hollywood Reporter following the news of their divorce:
Given the brevity of this marriage and the most recent and tragic loss of his mother, Johnny will not respond to any of the salacious false stories, gossip, misinformation and lies about his personal life. Hopefully the dissolution of this short marriage will be resolved quickly.
As People reports, Depp’s lawyer, Laura Wasser, said in response to Heard’s request for a restraining order:
Amber is attempting to secure a premature financial resolution by alleging abuse.
In the text messages, which were obtained by People, it appears Heard was texting with Stephen Deuters, Depp’s assistant. People claims the conversation happened in May 2014 and that Heard and Deuters were talking about an alleged incident that occurred the day before they texted in which Depp allegedly kicked Heard and had no memory of it later on. In the texts, Deuters alleged claims that Depp is very apologetic and cried when he found out what he’d done to Heard. Heard allegedly responds that she doesn’t know how she can be around him or stay with him after what happened. But later in the conversation, Heard allegedly claims that this is something Depp has done many times before, and she always stays with him and ends up in the same position.
Since People doesn’t disclose their source, there’s no way of knowing where these texts came from — or whether or not they were released with Heard’s permission — at this time.
Heard’s lawyers released a lengthy statement on May 31, which reads in part:
As the result of Amber’s decision to decline giving an initial statement to the LAPD, her silence has been used against her by Johnny’s team. Amber did not provide a statement to the LAPD in an attempt to protect her privacy and Johnny’s career. Johnny’s team has forced Amber to give a statement to the LAPD to set the record straight as to the true facts, as she cannot continue to leave herself open to the vicious false and malicious allegations that have infected the media. Amber has suffered through years of physical and psychological abuse at the hands of Johnny.
In light of the claims from Heard, Depp has received support from his daughter, Lily-Rose Depp, comedian Doug Stanhope, who claims to be Depp’s friend, and reportedly from his ex-girlfriend Vanessa Paradis.
